Room (2015)
Ever since Larson won Best Actress for her portrayal in Room, I’ve wanted to see this movie. And now that I’ve finally got round to seeing it: wow, did she deserve that award.
What is Room about?
Held captive for 7 years in an enclosed space, a woman and her young son finally gain their freedom, allowing the boy to experience the outside world for the first time. (from IMDB)
My review of Room
Room is incredible. The script is raw, honest, unsettling, and brought to gut-wrenching life by brilliant performances from Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. Larson and Tremblay embody their characters perfectly.
Larson’s portrayal of Joy “Ma” is incredibly real and moving, and she clearly involves herself in the role with everything she’s got and more. Her whole heart and body is in the woman she portrays, and her chemistry with Tremblay makes them an unforgettable pair.
Not only is the film well acted, but it has strong, thought-provoking messages throughout, and there is never a dull moment. The people become real, their struggles become real, and you cannot help but simply appreciate and respect the solid, powerful work of art you are watching.
With impressive camera work and additional brilliant performances by the ever reliable Joan Allen and William H Macy, Room’s claustrophobic atmosphere and mirror to a dark reality make it one of the best films of 2015.
Its real brilliance, however, is due to the stunning work by its two leads. Larson and Tremblay portray a mother and son relationship that cannot fail to squeeze your heart.
